Sandra Dessalines is a Haitian painter and visual artist. Sandra studied agricultural engineering, which she completed in Toulouse. In 2010, after the earthquake that destroyed the capital of Haiti and its surroundings, she decided to practice sculpture using papier-mâché. Her artistic work consists of discovering the turbulent history of Haiti, but also of bringing to light its Africanists.
Sandra explores the materiality of paper and cardboard, fabric, rope, iron and driftwood in her work. She pays tribute to Haitian cultural values, whose universality she wishes to share. Her various pieces explore, among other things, the themes of memory and Haitian and African identity.
