Born on March 6, 1977, Jackson Day started to paint when he was twenty years old. He began painting with Lesly Exume, who was his teacher. After a while, he painted alone. Jackson’s style is primitive, mixing imagination and movement. His work portrays group bands, dancing in the streets before Easter. He also paints voodoo ceremony and market scenes.
“When I’m painting, I do my research by walking to see people and scenery. I drink; listen to the radio and to music. This all inspires me to paint. When I begin to paint, I cannot stop. I go on and on without eating or sleeping for days.”
Jackson exhibits in several galleries in Haiti and in the US. He also exhibits his work in France and Germany and at the Zora (Neale Hurston) Festival in Florida.
