1. Focus on the subject and story.

2. Avoid distractions

3. Select the right brushes and color combinations

This approach enables him to convey his intended message effectively.

• Do you work on a single or multiple canvases at a time?

• Jean Ricardo Domond: I prefer on one canvas at a time because it helps me focus on the subject I am painting and on the story I want to convey to the viewers. It is important for me not to be distracted and keep my focus undisturbed. It’s a challenge to select the right brush and the right color combination to depict exactly the expression I want the viewers to experience.

• Who are your favorite Haitian painters, and why?

• Jean Ricarddo Domond: I like a few: Wilmino Domond for his style, Franck Louissaint for his colors, Patrick Wah for his surrealism, Michel Prudent for his use of the green color; but my brother Joseph Ernst Domond for his style is my favorite artist painter. I adore the way he uses the colors.

• Was there an event or personal experience that deeply affected you as an artist?

• Jean Ricardo Domond: The earthquake of 2010 in the south part of Haiti affected me very deeply, and many of my artworks were born as a result.
